Avoid Storing Fat This Winter
When the days get shorter and colder, sometimes I find myself getting cozy and settling in for the night only to find out it’s only 7 pm. Does this happen to you? It’s very common here in the colder climates. As a result, it can be difficult to find the motivation to stay active and since we spend more time indoors, there are more opportunities for night time comfort eating. Not to mention SAD disease from the lack of sunlight and cabin fever.
Avoid storing fat this winter with these simple tips so you’ll be in great shape when you head in to Spring and Summer.
- Choose an exercise program or training session that you MUST show up for. If you plan to meet a friend for a walk or a workout, you will show up. Make a commitment to yourself by making a commitment to someone else be it your trainer, group of friends, or class that you will be charged for if you do not show up.
- To avoid late night eating. Think about your food being used for energy. You don’t need extra calories when you’re more sedentary or about to go to sleep. If you eat balanced meals throughout the day, as I suggest, you shouldn’t need more food. If you really need to eat, have something low in calories like a cup of soup, fruit or vegetables.
- Come up with a list of things to do instead of eating. I love to take winter walks in the neighborhood with my son and dog, read a book, listen to my hypnosis or meditation CD’s, watch a movie my whole family can enjoy, organizing or housework, or plan a regular activity such as a dance class, rock climbing, or a networking group meet up.
